It is with a heavy heart that we will be shutting down our Women’s Leadership in Surgery Society and canceling our upcoming fall conference. We have been unable to secure sufficient grant funding and industry sponsorship to support our annual meeting, the heart of our society. This news, however, is bittersweet. The purpose of our society was to motivate women leaders, to provide education and mentorship, and to create a safe place to network and share our stories. Over the years, we have seen so many other societies and organizations bring these important themes and resources to their students, trainees, and surgeons. This dissemination was truly the ultimate goal of WLISS.
We are so incredibly proud of the work of our society, which was originally inspired by Dr. Aurora Pryor. She laid the groundwork for a decade of courageous and thoughtful symposia. We hope to have motivated many future women leaders in the field of surgery who will continue this legacy for generations to come.
